Establish Ground Layout...

What You Need

  • inverted spray paint
  • tape measure

What You Do

Paint Lines

One of the easiest ways to transfer your design from paper to patio area is to simply paint lines on the ground.

Start by establishing your primary measurements. This would include the width, length, and any other dimensions that define the shape and size of your patio design.

With inverted spray paint like utility companies use (it's available almost anywhere they sell cans of spray paint), mark every defining measurement point (1). Then just connect the dots (2) so you have a complete layout painted on the ground.

Start Digging

Now that you have the layout on the ground, you can begin excavation (prep ground for concrete | prep ground for pavers. Just make sure you contact your local utilities and have them check for underground lines before you dig!
