Choose the Perfect Area Rugs for Your Home Environment
Hallways: Long, bare hallways, either with floors of carpet, tile or hardwood can benefit the most from adding colorful, attractive area rugs. Hall runner area rugs are simply long, narrow area rugs designed specifically for use in a hallway. Many are made so that they're only slightly more narrow than an average hallway creating a carpeted look. Others are narrower to create accent over other types of flooring material. When choosing area rugs for hallways, consider the rooms at each end of the hallway and select a design, pattern, or color which will pull together the two rooms instead of clash with them. For example, if the room at one end of the hall features shades of blue, while the other room has a tropical theme, shop with an eye for area rugs which contain tropic greenery and blue flowers.
Den Area Rugs: Often dens or family rooms have hardware or tile flooring because these rooms get a great deal of use on a daily basis. Large berber area rugs can provide comfort and softness in those spots where people gather to play games, sit on the floor, or do homework. These larger area rugs are designed to be large enough that they need to be installed over area rug padding in order to lengthen the life of the rug and provide the plushest feel for those using the area rug. Add some pizzazz to your den or family room with area rugs. You can add several in various locations in a large family room to create the feeling of separate areas for different functions.
Foyer Rugs: The home entrance way, or foyer, is a perfect location for use of area rugs. Small, sturdy, area rugs manufactured with textured pile patterns are best in this high traffic area. The purpose of these area rugs is to protect the flooring underneath and prevent dirt from migrating into other areas. Choose from Berber area rugs, bamboo mats, or other textured surfaces.
Accent Rugs: Area rugs can be used as focus in front of seating area, under dining tables, in front of a soft, in a bathroom, or in any location that begs a bit of focus. If you have a large specimen plant of which you are especially proud, place it on a small area rug to truly provide visual focus. Just be sure you have the plant potted with a saucer that won't leak water on your beautiful area rug.
