Four Reasons to Use Area Rug Pads Under Your Area Rugs
Why should you elect to add area rug pads under your area rugs? After all, you may be buying cheap area rugs and feel there is little need for the added expense and effort involved with adding the padding beneath the rugs. Let's clear up any confusion as to whether the added investment is worth the money and effort. Here are four of the most important reasons you should place area rug pads under every area rug in your home:
1. Safety: When an area rug is placed on a floor, especially a slick, shiny hardwood or faux hardwood floor, it is very likely to slip or form wrinkles. This can trip anyone snagging a toe in the wrinkle or cause a person to go "skating" on a slipping rug. The end result can be as nasty fall, perhaps resulting in a hospital stay or even surgery to repair seriously broken bones. If furniture corners or shelves of bric-a-brac are encountered in the fall, a hospital emergency room visit for stitches to close cuts from the crash can result. At the very least it can result in bruises and discomfort. Home accidents are so very common that you do not want to be responsible for increasing the chances of a painful accident occurring due to lack of inclusion of simple area rug pads under your area rugs.
2. Vacuuming: How many times have you had to stop vacuuming to free the corner of an area rug from your vacuum cleaner intake? Most of us can say this has happened quiet often. Sometimes the rug's edge binding allows a string from the rug's pile to become loosened. This permits the thread to be sucked into the vacuum and wound around and around the vacuum's rotating brush or beater bar. Then you must stop and spend valuable time freeing the vacuum from the rug or rug scrap. This is not healthy for your rug or your vacuum. When area rugs are secured to area rug padding, the rug will not be picked up by the suction of a high suction vacuum, making your cleaning chore much easier, and extending the life of both the rug and the vacuum.
3. Color Transfer: When an area rug is placed over wood flooring or carpeting without any padding between, it is possible for color from the rug to transfer onto the floor treatment below, resulting in permanent or difficult to remove stains. Most area rugs only bleed color when wet. But let's be realistic; almost everyone experiences spills and drips onto area rugs as well as other floor treatments in their home no matter how careful they area.
4. Comfort and Increased Rug Life: An area rug placed in a high traffic area gets a lot of daily wear and tear. Unless area rug pads are placed under these area rugs, a wear pattern will soon become evident where most foot steps fall on the rug -- usually right down the middle. Also, any rug placed over area rug pads feels more comfortable to the human body when walking over the padded area.
